Respect Life

At St. Mary of the Assumption we strive to foster the deepest appreciation for the sanctity of human life through prayer, education and the organization of opportunities to give witness to the Gospel of Life.

Help save lives by praying for an end to abortion in our community. 40 DAYS FOR LIFE is an internationally coordinated 40-day campaign that aims to end abortion locally through prayer and fasting, community outreach, and a peaceful all-day vigil in front of abortion businesses.

Christ told us some demons can only be driven out by prayer and fasting. The two go hand in hand. Prayer keeps us rooted in the fact that it is our desire to carry out God's will. Fasting is a sacrifice that helps us reach beyond our own limitations with God's help.

The visible, public centerpiece of 40 Days for Life is a focused prayer vigil outside an individual abortion facility. It is a peaceful and educational presence. Those who are called to stand witness send a powerful message to the community about the tragic reality of abortion. It also serves as a call to repentance for those who work at the abortion center and those who patronize the facility.

During 40 Days for Life, the message is taken proactively to every corner of the community. Local pro-life leaders conduct media outreach through carefully targeted news stories, talk shows, and editorials.

People visibly show their support for 40 Days for Life by wearing wristbands, placing signs in their yards, or displaying bumper stickers on their vehicles.

By the grace of God, 40 Days for Life has achieved a stunning track record of saving lives and closing abortion facilities in over 1000 cities in 63 countries since launching in 2007. These staggering numbers would not be possible without the dedication of communities like St. Mary:

Get involved in the spring 2021 campaign as we continue to change hearts and minds! The vigil hours the parish covers are Saturday mornings from 10am-1pm. Email Catherine Fagan ([email protected]) to sign up for a day/time. See location information and notes below.
