Confirmation
Confirmation, April 2023
Congratulations to all confirmed on April 23, 2023! A big thank you to all the leaders, parents, sponsors, and everyone who made the liturgy possible.
Confirmation for 2024 is scheduled for Tues, April 30, 2024, at 6:30 pm at St. Henry. This will be a combined Confirmation liturgy for our Family of Parishes.
Confirmation is generally celebrated in 8th grade at St. Mary. If your teen is past 8th grade and they desire to receive the sacrament, please contact youth minister Jeffrey Kremer!
Notes on Confirmation Prep
There are two goals of Confirmation prep:
a.) to educate teens on the sacrament.
b.) to help form teens as lifelong disciples.
Likewise, we have two components of Confirmation prep. We ask all teens to participate in youth ministry, as well as a few supplemental Confirmation sessions. Please visit the Jr. High or High School Ministry page for our schedule and for registration, for youth ministry and specific to Confirmation.
Information on the Sacrament:
For more information or questions please contact the parish office at 937-557-1711, or contact Jeffrey Kremer, youth minister, at [email protected]. (For adults who have never been confirmed, please contact Chris Stier DRE at [email protected] or 937-557-1711 extension 102.
Preparation for Confirmation consists of regularly attending teen faith formation (youth ministry), preparation of the student by the parent, a mini-retreat for students, a few sessions specifically for candidates and their sponsors, Confirmation discernment interviews, and a letter written to Father Manning, requesting the sacrament.
1285 Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the "sacraments of Christian initiation," whose unity must be safeguarded. It must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For "by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed."
